He focuses on identifying risk factors that impact fetal development. His research has been presented at the Pediatric Academic Societies Meetings and has included benefits of prenatal steroids in less than twenty-eight week gestation mothers, phenol based disinfectants associated with neonatal jaundice, increased risks of NEC related to cryptosporidium, blood transfusions, and adverse effects of prenatal exposure to pesticides.

Currently, Dr. Winchester is the Medical Director of the NICU at St. Francis Hospital and a Professor of Clinical Pediatrics at Riley Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. His board certifications are in Perinatal and Neonatal Medicine and Pediatrics. Over the course of his career, Winchester’s passion and expertise have been recognized in the form of multiple awards, including the Riley Hospital “Red Shoes” Award for outstanding accomplishments in pediatric and family care at the IU Riley Hospital.
