Press Release (ePRNews.com) - SYDNEY, Australia - May 24, 2016 - Keen cyclists set to take ‘Everesting’ to new heights with all-new fundraising endurance event in September, with proceeds to Cancer Council NSW…
The number 8848 is much more than the height in metres of the world’s tallest mountain, it’s also an all-new endurance event set to challenge 800 ordinary people to do something extraordinary – to climb the height of Mount Everest on one mountain, in one day and to share one mission.
That mission is raising funds for a very worthy cause to continue the research into how to beat cancer and support the great work of the Cancer Council NSW.
This event is the first of its kind anywhere in the world, the first mass-participation ‘Everesting’ challenge offering riders the shared experience of reaching their summit together.
What is Everesting?
The phenomenon of ‘Everesting’ first emerged a few years ago when a group of intrepid Victorian cyclists now known as Hells 500 set themselves the challenge of climbing the height of Mt Everest (8848m) by riding up and down the same mountain, virtually non-stop, until the height of 8848m had been conquered. This has now become a global passion with thousands of people attempting the challenge.
The 8848 event takes the concept of ‘Everesting’ further by combining the spirit of the original challenge with a fully supported event format with team options making it more accessible to the broader cycling community.
Our pioneering ‘Everesting’ event will be held in the Royal National Park at Garie Beach just over an hour south of Sydney on 10/11 September 2016. Fully sanctioned by Cycling NSW, supported by Hells 500 and bike partner Ribble Cycles.
Event features include:
– 24 hour cycling festival with Himalayan flavor, providing comfortable camping at the extensively themed 8848 Base Camp
– Ribble Cycles – sponsored challenges and prizes
– Closed road, fully supported, floodlit course, hospitality, entertainment, medical facilities, bike services
– 24 hours, 2.5km ascent, 44 laps, average gradient 7%, 235km
– Open for limited solo riders and teams of two and four
