Alert: Internet Freedoms Are in Peril by October 1st, but Debbie Wasserman Schultz Does Nothing to Stop It

Press Release (ePRNews.com) - Miami Beach, Florida - Sep 29, 2016 - Act Quickly to Prevent Internet Giveaway! Please call your Congressperson today. Bright Star Pac is concerned about the future of the Internet and proper representation of District 23.

With the Obama Administration ready to hand over control of the Internet to the non-profit ICANN, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, on October 1st, time is running out to prevent this takeover. And Democrats like Debbie Wasserman Schultz, running for re-election in District 23 in Florida, are doing nothing to stop it.

Internet commerce continues to fuel many of the most innovative advances for America’s family owned businesses. The possibilities brought forth by Internet consumer reach allows South Florida’s entrepreneurs continued opportunities to create and market goods and services to consumers across the nation. Joe Kaufman believes that web-based business should be free from much government interference. Upon his election, Joe will fight to expand internet business opportunities for his constituents by protecting them from taxes and bureaucratic regulations.

A group of prominent national security professionals have sent a letter to Defense Secretary Ashton Carter and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Joseph Dunford Jr. in opposition to the transfer. “Of…immediate concern to us…is the prospect that the United States might be transferring to future adversaries a capability that could facilitate, particularly in time of conflict, cyberwarfare against us,” they write. “In the absence of [the National Telecommunications and Information Administration’s] stewardship, we would be unable to be certain about the legitimacy of all IP addresses or whether they have been, in some form or fashion, manipulated, or compromised.”

Debbie Wasserman Schultz of District 23, the disgraced former DNC chairperson who had to resign over allegations of rigging the DNC against Bernie Sanders, is very partisan toward President Obama’s actions as well as Hillary Clinton’s. It is not in her personal ambitious interests to question President Obama’s opinions about this issue. She is doing nothing at all to stop the Internet giveaway and protect the free flow of information online. Obama’s proposed Internet giveaway could cause irreparable damage not only to our nation, but on free speech across the world. It would be a great threat to our National Security.

The transition will make some Internet functions subject to the potential future oppression of nations like China and Russia, who monitor and control free speech currently. Contrary to what the mainstream media are portraying or even the big successful Internet companies like Google or Facebook who have already earned their place at the table of speech and influence, this is not an inconsequential event. ICANN will change one of the most important cryptographic key pairs on the internet. This key ensures that when web users try to visit a website, they get sent to the correct address. Without it, many Internet users could be directed to imposter sites crafted by hackers, such as phishing websites designed to steal information.

As a private organization, ICANN is not bound by the First Amendment, which applies only if run by the American government. ICANN has been in contract with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce until October 1st, and for over 20 years the U.S. has supervised this wonderful technology and example of free speech and the free market. October 1st, ICANN is without contract and without a governing body. And that means that ICANN would be free to regulate Internet speech by restricting which websites can gain access to the Internet.

ICANN controls the issuing of domain names.

Domain names with keyword phrases about whatever subject one wants to identify as can be created right now. Some people could choose domain names that are critical of governments, religions, and corporations. Some could choose domain names even critical of brands. Some people choose domain names for the marketing of their brands. Domain names are essential to freedom of speech and freedom of association.

Do we want this freedom to be in jeopardy?

How can we trust that ICANN will stay beholden to the concepts of freedom of speech if it contracts out with another governing body like the U.N. or authoritarian Russia or China?

.gov, .mil, .org, .com  (Top Level Domains – TLDs) are essential domain name addresses to people, governments, and businesses. A free floating ICANN without U.S. Chamber of Commerce governing authority could decide arbitrarily in the future to drop certain domain names. They are only required to give short notice if they drop domain names which could put large segments of American society on edge. This is a threat to the livelihood of our society. Personal, corporate, government, and religious interests could be at the whim of a new authority of ICANN, who may be offended or feel threatened by their use of free speech.

The U.S. historically has been a strong proponent of freedom of speech and freedom of religion and the criticism of religion. It is in the 1st Amendment of the Bill of Rights.  It is in the DNA of American thought. Our country even allowed textual criticism of religious texts at its beginning, with the works of Thomas Paine. These are values embedded in American culture. After the U.S. military invented the Internet, it became a vehicle for the public and now the Internet has thus become one of the greatest tools of speech and free market that the world has ever seen.  If ICANN is under another authority instead of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in the future such as a multi-stakeholder semi-government body, those precious liberties and ideals which have served the whole planet, can be in serious jeopardy.

By transitioning control of the Internet from the U.S., the Obama administration will take power away from the American people and set up the stage of ICANN being controlled by other governing authorities in the future, potentially empowering China, Russia, and Iran, if they were to take charge of governing ICANN, putting those regimes one step closer to their goal to control the global Internet structure. Once the transfer is made, it will be too late to get it back, leaving Americans at the mercy of anti-freedom governments.

Ways Voters Can Oppose the Internet Giveaway and Reclaim District 23: Try calling Debbie Wasserman Schultz to voice opposition at (954) 437-3936. It may not be effective, though, since it appears that she is working harder for Obama than her Congressional District, and she has a new role in the Hillary Clinton for President campaign which will take up her critical time for the November 8th election. District 23 voters may feel slighted that their issues are not being attended to. While presiding over the DNC, did Debbie Wasserman Schultz work more for Hillary Clinton than District 23? Wasserman Schultz had to resign from her DNC leadership position due to alleged rigging of Democratic Party Primaries for Hillary in the Primaries. Immediately she was hired by the Clinton for President campaign.

Another Option is to Vote Against Debbie Wasserman Schultz on November 8th. It is rumored that currently House Speaker Paul Ryan from U.S. House of Representatives is creating a lawsuit against the Obama administration that will put a halt on the transfer of the Internet October 1st. This could delay Obama administration’s actions until Congress has an opportunity to vote on it. The U.S. Senate is going out of session on Friday September 30th, so there won’t be any votes then. So if there is a delay of transfer of the Internet on Saturday October 1st, Voters in District 23 can voice their opposition to the Internet giveaway by voting for Joe Kaufman, the GOP candidate opposing Wasserman Schultz in the November 8th election. Joe Kaufman is a strong proponent of freedom of speech and keeping the Internet under U.S. supervision. Also, Kaufman is trying to appeal to Bernie Sanders voters who voted for Tim Canova in the primaries against Debbie Wasserman Schultz. There were at least 21,000 Tim Canova voters, an obvious protest to the leadership of Debbie Wasserman Schultz. Debbie Wasserman Schultz only won by around 7k votes in her primary.

Joe Kaufman pleads “My appeal to Bernie Sanders’ voters is to vote their conscience and help me bring down the establishment, which Debbie represents. When I get to Washington, I will be the servant to all of my constituents, whether they are Republican, Democrat, Libertarian or anything in between.” Joe Kaufman is a big proponent of freedom of speech and he has a track record of using his speech and writings to warn of potential U.S. domestic terror groups. Joe Kaufman is a big proponent of the free market that exists on the Internet.
