Press Release (ePRNews.com) - ATLANTA - Apr 30, 2019 - AssureSign, a market leader in electronic signature innovation, today announced it will begin utilizing short codes—short digit sequences—later in 2019 for its popular eSign via Text feature. AssureSign is the only electronic signature firm that offers eSigning via text message natively in its platform. Switching from traditional 10-digit number sending to short codes yields greater security protocols and seamless compliance with the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA), along with other Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulations.
In addition to regulating the National Do Not Call Registry, TCPA provides regulatory oversight concerning telemarketing calls, auto-dialed calls, prerecorded calls, text messages and unsolicited faxes. The FCC extends provisions within TCPA and other regulations to curtail unwanted communications, otherwise known as spam messaging. AssureSign’s alignment with all FCC requirements helps businesses avoid fines that can range from $500 to $1,500 per recipient and message.
“People are accustomed to leveraging text messages to communicate, it’s the fastest way to get a response,” said David Brinkman, President and CEO of AssureSign. “More than 55 percent of people do not have mobile access to their email. Our eSign via Text feature empowers clients to maintain communication with those consumers while completing document lifecycles in record time.”
When AssureSign clients utilize unique short codes, their customers and recipients know that messages have originated from a verified business or brand. Additionally, the short code service allows clients utilizing the eSign via Text feature to send documents for signature via text message without risk of having messages blocked by cell phone carriers.
To receive approval for short code use, AssureSign was required to submit requested documentation to the Common Short Code Administration and solicit approval from the FCC. AssureSign received clearance from both the Administration and the FCC and began provisioning its short code appropriation in early 2019. The company plans to roll out the service to customers later this year.
