In the recent time, this famous art gallery in Kolkata welcomed the opportunity where it had screened two successful documentary films on painter Amrita Sher Gill and Ganesh Pyne.
Both these films got successfully screened at the gallery outlet on June 17th 2016. The films individually had rich subject matter to deal with that had accumulated interested audience from various walks of life. The documentary film titled “Amrita Sher Gil” had duration of 19 minutes and was directed by B.D. Garga. This film was based on the painter Amrita Sher Gil and her paintings and other works. As a painter Amrita Sher Gil took her inspiration for her portraits from the people she met during her everyday life and expressed her perspective on the canvas based on her creative interpretation. The artists died at a rather young age and this documentary explores the mind of Amrita Sher Gil and her thought process.
The other documentary that was screened is named “Ganesh Pyne: A Painter of Eloquent Silence” has been directed by Buddhadeb Dasgupta and has a duration of 24 minutes. This documentary too captures the creative thought process and the philosophy behind the painter’s work and other creative renditions. Both the directors were present introducing the subject of their films, letting the audience know what the subject is all about.
