Bringing Universal Rights to The Eternal City

Press Release ( - ROME - Dec 20, 2018 - Community leaders and officials including mayors representing more than 10 cities pledged their support of human rights education at a conference Dec. 10, held at the National Parliament of the Republic of Italy.

The celebration marked the 70th anniversary of the United Nations’ adoption of The Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), the world’s first and most all-encompassing statement of the rights possessed by all members of the human family.

Officials and guests signed a pledge to commit themselves to mandate human rights education in all schools.

One of the featured speakers, alpinist and human rights activist Mr. Daniele Nardi, invited those attending to sign a flag bearing the logo of Youth for Human Rights International (YHRI). Nardi, who successfully scaled Mt. Everest and planted the YHRI flag on its summit, will carry their names to another of the highest peaks of the world to symbolize the determination of those attending this forum to overcome any obstacles in the way of achieving these rights for all mankind.

United for Human Rights and its program for young people, Youth for Human Rights International, raise awareness of The Universal Declaration of Human Rights as the first and most fundamental step in guaranteeing these rights to everyone. They hold events, petition drives and provide educational materials that anyone may use to raise awareness and understanding of the 30 articles enshrined in the UDHR.

Online courses on the 30 articles of The Universal Declaration of Human Rights are available free of charge through the United for Human Rights website.
