Press Release (ePRNews.com) - LARGO, Fla. - Mar 01, 2018 - Calypso Bay Stables in the Shadow Pines neighborhood has been purchased by Anthony Degina, a well-known leader who lives and works in the Largo community. Degina became involved with the stables when his daughter began taking lessons there a year ago.
He agreed to purchase the stables when he learned the prior owner was considering selling and wanted to make sure the facility would stay in operation as a horse stable. “Having this facility available here in Largo has made a huge impact on our entire family and our quality of life,” explained Degina. “Whether it’s kids building self-esteem with riding lessons or horse owners who want to be close to their family pet, we know how much the area horse community appreciates being able to spend time with these majestic creatures without having to drive an hour away.”
The 32-stall facility, known for its active schedule of riding lessons, will continue offering many of the same services it has for more than 20 years. The stables are clean and fully equipped for full board, with many amenities like covered wash racks with fans, lights and hot water, fans in all isle ways. The property is very well lit throughout and each stall has its own fan and light and automatic waterer and feed bin. A family-friendly stable, Calypso Bay offers birthday parties, complete with an air-conditioned A-Frame party room.
The beloved stables are best-known for their children’s riding lessons, Day Camps and Summer Camps. “We’re primarily a hunter-jumper barn, but allow for all riding disciplines, hpzzk and can design specific training programs for any riding interests,” said Judi Hicklin, Trainer at Calypso Bay Stables for over a year. A riding trainer for 20 years, Hicklin has spent over 40 years working around horses and has successfully guided thoroughbred race horses in winning more than $6 million in purses.
At Calypso Bay, however, her motivation is about the children. “These experiences can make an enormous difference in children’s lives,” said Hicklin. “We get them off their cell phones. They learn how to care for the horse, how to care for others. And there’s something about learning to ride that instills a lot of positive confidence and self-esteem. The kids make real bonds out here.”
Calypso Bay remains fully open during the transition, and the management team is moving forward with business as usual, except now with more stability and security around the future of the stables. The central location offers an opportunity to develop a vibrant horse culture in the heart of Pinellas. One of the best-kept secrets of St. Petersburg, Calypso Bay has tapped digital marketing agency Amplification Inc. to develop a new website and handle social media support and internet advertising to create more awareness.
The Calypso Bay office is open Monday-Friday 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. Those interested in finding out more about boarding services, parties or riding lessons can contact Calypso Bay Stables directly by phone at 727-587-0024, or by following on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/CalypsoBayHorseStables.
