Press Release (ePRNews.com) - CARMEL, Calif. - Jun 13, 2019 - The Carl Cherry Center for the Arts introduces Smart Shorts: Monterey County’s first film festival dedicated to movies shot exclusively on a cell phone or tablet. The center is seeking innovative film submissions now through July 31, 2019.
Smart Shorts encourages filmmakers ages 12 and older to create, express and share their lives and perspectives through films shot exclusively on smartphones and tablets. Submission to Smart Shorts is FREE to all Monterey County residents, with a nominal fee of $25 for filmmakers outside of Monterey County.
Sponsored, in part, through donations from MCGives and the Arts Council for Monterey County, Smart Shorts desires to excite and promote filmmakers from Monterey County, the United States, and around the world to produce a ground-breaking short film on an easily accessible digital medium — 1 to 5 minutes in length — and submitted through FilmFreeway.com, an online submission platform. Finalists will be notified after August 16, 2019. Awards and the screening will take place on September 13 and 14 at the Carl Cherry Center in Carmel.
The bravest, most engaging and trailblazing film will be awarded Best Short, along with a $500 cash prize. First place winners will each receive a $250 cash prize and second place winners a $125 cash prize in the following eight categories: Best Director, Best Performance by Actress, Best Performance by Actor, Best Ensemble Cast, Best Animation, Best Editing, Best Cinematography, and Best Music. Additionally, a certificate will be presented to winners of the Executive Director’s Award for Artistic Merit and People’s Choice Award.
