Press Release (ePRNews.com) - BROMBOROUGH, England - Oct 30, 2016 - The ‘Failed To Install’ KB3194496 Windows 10 update error is caused by several compatibility issues with Windows 10, especially technical preview 1607. Microsoft have acknowledged the issue in an update released on September 29. The way to resolve the error is either to use Microsoft’s own script to fix it, or manually attempt to remove some of the settings causing the compatibility error.
A new tutorial – released by leading software company – has revealed several fixes which can be used to resolve the KB3194496 error. It explains that the underlying cause of the error is a compatibility issue on your system. In the preview / technical builds of Windows 10, there were a number of files / settings which conflicted with the settings required by KB3194496.
The solution is to change the files which will be conflicting with the update. The tutorial – as co-oberated by Microsoft’s press release – are in: “C:WindowsSystem32TasksMicrosoftXblGameSave”. This folder holds several files which Windows uses to manage which different programs. If you’re confident in doing this manually, you need to go into this folder and delete its files, as well as the corresponding registry keys. It must be noted this manual method is extremely risky and should only be attempted if you are a computer professional.
Microsoft have also released an update script to solve it. If you are uncomfortable, unwilling or unable to use the manual workaround, it is strongly recommended you use the official fix from Microsoft for the KB3194496 error. The solution can be found as an added link on the newly released tutorial.
It is important to remember that Windows 10 operates on what we call a “cumulative” upgrade system. This means that every update contains the files / fixes for all the previous ones. Conquently, the safest way to solve the error is to wait for Microsoft to download the latest update on your computer. This will ensure you’re not tampering with system files that could lead to more problems.
