“The only limiting factor on our growth now is hiring,” Fortuna said. GeistM is seeking to hire around five people a week for its Times Square office. Fortuna expects annual revenue to double this year and GeistM will “definitely surpass $100 million” in 2019, as he put it.

In the thicket of New York business, big, established companies often overshadow young, nimble startups. That’s why Crain’s New York Business shines a light on the metro area’s fastest-growing firms every year.
To identify the class of 2018, we combed through applications and worked with PrivCo, which tracks private companies’ financial information in a proprietary database, as well as S&P Global Market Intelligence to screen their data. We only considered companies with at least $10 million in revenue and ranked them by their three-year growth rate. Most of the privately held businesses confirmed their revenue. For the publicity-shy, we relied on PrivCo or our own research to provide an estimate. Profitability and employee counts are as of fiscal and calendar year 2017, respectively.
