Global Prayer Convocation Illuminates United Nations Civil Rights Initiative

Press Release (ePRNews.com) - BALTIMORE - Jun 28, 2018 - In alignment with the United Nations International Decade for People of African Descent, Global Prayer Convocation 2018 will bring together prayer warriors from throughout the world at the Baltimore Convention Center on July 18-21, 2018. The United States, Ghana, Canada, Kenya, Tanzania, Nigeria, Liberia, Europe, South Africa and the Caribbean are among the communities to be represented at Global Prayer Convocation 2018.

On Dec. 23, 2013, the United Nations proclaimed an International Decade for People of African Descent to commence on Jan. 1, 2015, and conclude Dec. 31, 2024. The three pillars of the initiative are recognition, justice and development of and for people of African descent. Through this initiative, the UN asserts “the international community recognizes that people of African descent represent a distinct group whose human rights must be promoted and protected.” Approximately 200 million people who self-identify as being of African descent live in the Americas.

“We must recognize and increase our commitment to combat what constitutes Afrophobia and discrimination against peoples of African descent in the more general and equally disturbing discrimination and injustice suffered by many other social groups within our societies and nations.  Therefore,” veteran actor and UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador Danny Glover declared, “I join with the 200 million peoples of African descent in the Americas, 40 million of whom live in my country the United States, to insist that our national and multilateral policymakers ensure that specific policies are targeted to work with and in support of people of African descent.”

Global Prayer Convocation will answer the call of the United Nations that this be the decade to honor people of African descent. Christians from all over the diaspora will come together to heal our destiny, rename our past and in a very meaningful way, bring glory to God in the earth realm.
