About the Peace Corps
The Peace Corps sends Americans with a passion for service to destinations around the world. Volunteers work with local communities to create lasting change by addressing challenges in education, health, agriculture, youth development and more. Peace Corps volunteers return home with a greater understanding of other cultures. They return home as leaders with a lifelong commitment to serve in their own communities as well. Since the Peace Corps was established in 1961, more than 235,000 volunteers have served in 141 countries.
GlobalAustin was founded in 1960 as a program to welcome international students to The University of Texas. It has since grown to become an organization fully invested in the mission of providing the Central Texas community with multiple opportunities to experience global, cross-cultural exchange. GlobalAustin is now part of the U.S. Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program and, as such, has been integral in connecting thousands of international visitors with the greater Austin area.
