Gospel choir and Gilbert & Sullivan at St Nicholas-at-Wade church

Press Release (ePRNews.com) - ST NICHOLAS-AT-WADE, England - Jul 11, 2016 - Top Choir Of Kent finalists Thanet Gospel Choir will be making their first appearance at popular venue St Nicholas-at-Wade church on Saturday 16 July. The picturesque village church is renowned for good acoustics and its ongoing series of charity concerts, which this year have already included Thanet Light Orchestra, Revelation Strings and the Railway Swing Band.

The gospel choir have won numerous awards over the last few years: in addition to twice being finalists in the highly contested Top Choir of Kent competition, they were rated ‘outstanding’ in two categories at Thanet Music Festival (where they also won the Sacred Music shield), won first place at the Fair Trade Choir Competition, and also reached the finals of “Make Me a Star”.

They will be singing well-known traditional tunes and songs of the Civil Rights Movement, such as Down By the Riverside and Swing Low Sweet Chariot. The choir will be accompanied by a group of musicians, and definitely expect some lively audience participation.

The following week, on Saturday 23 July, Ramsgate Operatic Society will be returning to the church for their third concert in as many years. This time they will be reprising their acclaimed recent Gilbert & Sullivan evening at the Sarah Thorne Memorial Theatre. The evening will include excerpts from six of the duo’s well-loved operas: Mikado, Ruddigore, Sorcerer, Pirates of Penzance, Yeoman of the Guard and Gondoliers. Here too, the audience will be welcome to fill their lungs and join in the choruses, as well as listening to some great solos, duets and concert numbers.

Each concert starts at 7.30 p.m. Tickets are now available – £8 in advance (from St Nicholas post office), £10 on the door, and free entry to those 18 & under. There will be refreshments available, for a donation.

The concerts are sponsored by local publisher Ozaru Books.
