India’s First Ahimsa-Based Retreat to be Held in Mumbai

Press Release ( - Mumbai, Maharastra, India - May 22, 2017 - Ahimsa Parmo Dharma Group is organizing the Ahimsa Retreat on 17 and 18 June 2017 (Sat & Sun). The event is the first Ahimsa-based retreat held in India, and perhaps across the world. The event will be held at Rambhau Mhalgi Prabodhini–Knowledge Excellence Centre, (RMP-KEC, Keshav Srushti), Bhayander, Mumbai.


The Ahimsa Retreat is to offer an orientation to the ‘ahimsak’ way of life. This way, participants will receive a holistic orientation to an eco-conscious and cruelty-free way of living. The Retreat promotes compassion towards not only ourselves, but also our immediately families, friends and other. Ahimsa extends beyond human circle and includes compassion towards not only other living creatures, but the environment and planet as well.

In line with the principles of Ahimsa, the Ahimsa Retreat will include talks from a number of experts to offer a 360-degee orientation of living–ranging from food to living in harmony with our environment. Ahimsa is more than just ‘being vegan’. Ahimsa is a more universal ideology that starts with being compassionate towards ourselves by way of thoughts and the food choices we make and extends to making deeper connection with the environment and the universe.


The event will feature dairy-free foods that have minimum oil. The meals, though organized by the venue, will be overseen by Ahimsa team to ensure quality standards. Cooking Demos will be held that will also offer tempting bites and treats to participants.


The Ahimsa Retreat will feature experts from various fields to speak about practical topics selected to inspire and encourage participants to enhance this lifestyle, which will in turn also boost one’s health and well-being. Practical tips and examples will be provided to reinforce the principles of Ahimsa. Experts selected to talk at the Ahimsa Retreat are professionals from various fields and who have lived the ‘Ahimsa’ way of life for over 10 years. They include, raw food experts, doctors, homeopaths, yoga instructors, botanical specialists, animal therapists and many more.


Participants will be divided into groups and each group will be assigned a Mentor. The Mentors will take their groups on walks across the lush-green campus and talk about various subjects. The key is to reinforce positive habits and learnings from the lectures/ talks and integrate them into everyday life.


Live cooking demos will be held for participants to get a more hand-on experience with food. The chefs will demonstrate a series of tempting and delicious recipes that like buttermilk, dahi-chats, milkshakes and cottage-based that’s are dairy-free and can be made at home. Other dishes shown with be oil-free and whole food based. The aim of the cooking demos is to encourage participants to get more hands-on in the kitchen and make dairy-free foods at home on a regular basis.


Participants will be free to walk across the woody campus of Keshav-Srusti. Groups will go on leisurely strolls around the campus while discussing a range of topics with their assigned mentors. This way, the mentors will discuss by personal examples of how to incorporate Ahimsa principles in daily life.


Ahimsa Parmo Dharma Group has planned a series of interesting group activities to enable better bonding and have fun. There are group activities planned for children who also join the retreat with their parents. The Ahimsa Retreat will be fun and learning across all ages.

About Us 

The Ahimsa Parmo Dharma Group (APDG) has been founded in 2015 and aims to create awareness about the principles of Ahimsa in everyday life. The five-members of the group are professionals from various streams of life who have come together with the single vision of non-violence in thought, deed and action. Atul Doshi, CA

Atul Doshi is presently working as an Honorary Director in an online education company which provides education content free to all students across globe. He has written a booklet titled, ‘We Vegetarian (?) People’ in English and Hindi. Atul Doshi is amongst the first few cruelty-free advocates in India who had organised a novel cruelty-free wedding for his daughter in 2015. His efforts to create awareness, share knowledge freely and inspire others to do the same have received wide acclaim from various communities across the city.

Saroj Choudhury

Saroj is one of the earliest advocators of vegan and wfpd lifestyle in Mumbai. Today, she continues to be a strong supporter of wfpd and vegan lifestyle and has spoken at various seminars across the city. She has the vision of inspiring more people coming together and choosing the dairy-free foods, and making wiser and compassionate lifestyle choices.

Dr Rupa Shah

Dr Rupa A Shah is the Founder and Director of circleOhealth. She is trained in western medicine (MBBS) in Mumbai and has been healing patients for the past 30+ years. She went on a wfpd over 8 years ago, and experienced its dramatic powers for herself. She has also authored a practical and easy beginner’s guide titled ‘Dairy Alternatives’ in English as well as Gujarati.

Pradeep Shah

By profession an Electronics Engineer, he worked as an R&D engineer and since the last three decades has been manufacturing electronic test & measuring instruments. Since the last twenty two months, he has been practicing Nature’s Diet System that has shown miraculous results. In a matter of few months this system can cure diabetes, blood pressure, cholesterol, obesity and common cold. He strongly believes nature has created us and made all provisions for us and to live “happy & healthy”, we have to follow its simple laws which he expounds through his talks.

Reyna Rupani

Reyna is the head of SHARAN-Mumbai, an NGO which advocates food as medicine. She lost 17kg, and cured severe acidity by following this philosophy. Now she can’t help sharing this philosophy with others. She conducts SHARAN sessions like oil-free cooking, health talks, pot-lucks, film screenings and helps in spreading awareness about the power of natural food in the world.
