International Veterinary Point-of-Care Ultrasound Symposium Hosted Close to 100 Veterinarians at Premier Event

Press Release ( - AUSTIN, Texas - Jan 06, 2020 - The International Veterinary Point-of-Care Ultrasound Society (IVPOCUS) today announced that they successfully concluded their second International Veterinary Point-of-Care Ultrasound Symposium in Austin, TX, Nov. 18-20, 2019.

IVPOCUS sold out the premier 2019 Symposium, with 96 attendees representing the U.S., Canada, and Europe, and over 90% rated the program excellent or very good, saying they would come back again and recommend it to colleagues.

The 2.5-day 2019 IVPOCUS Symposium focused on “Ultrasound-Guided Procedures”, featuring world-renowned speakers that represent thought leadership in veterinary point-of-care (POC) and FAST ultrasound and 17 hours of RACE-approved continuing education. Speakers included:

• Dr. Diego Portela, DACVAA, University of Florida 
• Dr. Marta Romano, DACVAA, University of Florida
• Dr. Teresa DeFrancesco, DACVIM, DACVECC, North Carolina State
• Dr. Jennifer Gambino, DACVR, Mississippi State, IDEXX
• Dr. Gregory Lisciandro, DABVP, DACVECC, Hill Country Veterinary Specialists, CEO of and editor of the textbook Focused Ultrasound Techniques for the Small Animal Practitioner

The Symposium also featured Keynote Speaker Nilam J. Soni, MD, Professor of Medicine, University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio. Dr. Soni focuses on the clinical applications of hand-carried ultrasound, including ultrasound-guided procedures and diagnostic bedside ultrasound.

“We now have two very successful Symposiums to build on and believe there is real momentum for Point-of-Care Ultrasound in veterinary medicine; there is no doubt that it is fast becoming a core skill,” said Dr. Gregory Lisciandro, ABVP, ACVECC, and President of IVPOCUS. 

Dr. Lisciandro continued, “We believe that IVPOCUS can play a very important role in continuing to build awareness and exposure, and we will be looking to create more opportunities for ongoing education and providing more conferences and seminars that provide hands-on practice.”
