Exam, itself is a big name in every student’s mind! Students are used to take exams from their childhood. After giving exam they feel relaxed and actually forget what it is meant for. It is like students who score thirty three percent marks in their higher secondary are the ones who pass the boards but again not getting good colleges for their graduation. If evaluation can only be done by one mode of written format then it can be changed with other modes such as, physical form because now-a-days there is so much pressure which the students are already taken… so to reduce the mental stress, we can adopt new ways where students feel relaxed. We can have education without stress by giving not so much of mental pressure but provide them with more of interesting ways. Theoretical part always seems to be very monotonous which usually students avoid and if we add one motivational video with role play related to a particular topic then suddenly situation changes and students in upcoming days are demanding more of that only so with the change in lectures pattern we can also change the written evaluation/examination with other innovative forms.
Exam is one thing and education is one! We should focus more on the education rather than standards if every college is setting some sort of standards then what about those students who are not able to score good marks by writing exams. It is like job without salary, where students have no interest but for the sake of degree they are giving papers. Colleges should have equal criteria of selection. Efforts put by one can always be judged by others only when they showcase something extra so not just give scores but try to impart knowledge by providing them more ways.
There are certain other methods to evaluate students like presentation, open book test, role play, viva, internship, business idea, group activities, extempore, debates, case study method. If we replace exams with such kind of activities then there are certain pros which can be see among them such as:
– Students would like to participate with more enthusiasm as they conduct more group activities, it will increase the mutual understanding, team formation, etc.
– It will decrease the fear of examination among the students.
– As we all know the things which one is doing practically have more impact, similarly this kind of evaluation will increase the learning skills, which usually student forget after taking examination.
– Motivational videos have more impact on student’s minds these days.
– Brain storming plays a very good role.
– Business Quiz/ Simulation games make students more vibrant and students themselves show interest in such activities.
All the above stated ways more or less give very good impact, it will not only increase the interest of the students but also boost up the students willpower to be regular in their classes.
