Press Release (ePRNews.com) - SAN RAMON, Calif. - Jan 26, 2018 - A majority of American adults—about 75 percent—use some sort of vision correction. And the vast majority of Americans may be risking further vision decline with the widespread use of computer and phone screens. These numbers mean one thing: eye care is more important than ever for Americans. Financial Education Benefits Center (FEBC), a wellness and lifestyle membership benefits company, will be offering a vision benefit to eligible members to make vision care easier and more accessible.
Researchers still don’t know why so many of us have substandard vision. But for people of all walks of life, from children to the elderly, glasses and contacts are a key part of daily life. But the costs to keep up with eyewear needs add up over the years. FEBC’s upcoming vision benefit will offer discounts to eligible members on glasses and eyewear, contacts, eye exams, and laser surgery.
“Some people may be hesitating to get the help with their vision they need, possibly because of cost,” said Jennifer Martinez, Manager at FEBC. “But with this benefit, the discounts may just make it easier on their bank accounts.”
Eye health is absolutely vital to our daily lives and we’re happy to offer this benefit that addresses it.
Now that computer, tablet, and smartphone screens are ubiquitous in American life, eyesight may be taking an even bigger hit. The blue light that these devices emit penetrate deep into the eye. Experts are positing that so much blue light might contribute to macular degeneration and other vision problems as the years go by and dependence grows on blue light-emitting devices. While it’s still unclear what the long-term effects of so much blue light will be, too much screen time can cause eye strain and dry eyes simply because people tend to blink less when staring at a screen.
While people may be concerned with immediate eye needs like glasses, it’s always wise to also think about potential eye problems that may develop later in life. Regular vision check-ups are one tool to help diagnose eye disease early. With upcoming discounts on eye exams, eligible FEBC members will be able to enjoy easier access to eye care for their immediate and long-term vision care. Though experts are still not completely sure about the long-term effects of blue light exposure, caution may also be practiced by limiting screen time or periodically resting the eyes.
“Eye health is absolutely vital to our daily lives and we’re happy to soon be offering this benefit that addresses it,” said Martinez. “From discounts on new glasses to laser surgery, there will be so many ways to save with the benefit. Helping our members save on things they need every day is one of our key goals at FEBC.”
