Malta Water Cluster to Continue Collaboration Following Conclusion of WE@EU Project

Press Release ( - May 09, 2016 - Paragon Europe hosted the Water Efficiency in European Urban Areas (WE@EU) Final Dissemination event which brought together stakeholders representing academia, the government and local SMEs. Stakeholders included members of the Malta Water Cluster which was established through the project in 2015 and which will continue to grow in the years to come.

WE@EU is funded by the European Union Seventh Framework Programme and is based on the ambition to create an open European platform for EU excellence in water efficiency in urban water management. This European platform will enable the participating clusters and regions to bring together knowledge and innovation potential by collaborating and mutually learning at a transnational level.

The project is led by The University of Zaragoza in Spain and brings together a consortium of nine international partners from Israel, Malta, France, the UK and Spain. Malta is represented by Paragon Europe. The WE@EU project had a total budget of €2.5 million and has run for 36 months.

The Joint Action Plan established by the partners was presented and discussions ensued as to how this will be implemented by the consortium and by the Malta Water Cluster. The consortium is planning to build on the results of this project and seek opportunities for further cooperation. The cluster agreed to move forward together with Paragon Europe managing the collaboration. Key players and actors in the field are on board, these include the MHRA, MCAST, Life Sciences Park, and several other government entities, private companies and SMEs.

The discussion focused on the different ways in which cluster members could collaborate, including participation in EU funded projects and tenders; business opportunities; the sharing of knowledge and know-how; the dynamics of the Cluster now and the way forward. Bi-monthly discussions will be held among members with the aim of establishing strong working relationships.
