Native Plants That Will Shine in Your Garden

Native Plants That Will Shine in Your Garden

Australia has over 19,000 native plant species, so if you’re looking to transform your garden, why not include some of the best-looking native plants? Because they’re native, they’re perfectly suited to the soil type, water and climate of Australia, so they should grow and thrive with little effort in your garden. Let’s have a look at some of our favourites.

Before You Plant

Naturally, before you dive headfirst into planting some of these plants, you’ll want to get a maintenance plan in place for your garden, because they’ll need some care, particularly in the beginning. If you’re short on time thanks to work and family commitments, look forgardening services in Brisbane Australia. For example, Greater Brisbane Gardens offer everything from garden maintenance to landscaping services, all at an affordable price.

The Christmas Bush

The Christmas bush is named after its flowering season – and you get no points for guessing that is from November to the beginning of January. There area few varieties, but likely the one you’re familiar with is the vibrant reds offered by the Albery’s Red. They’re quick growing bushes and can get as tall as 4 metres, so be sure it has lots of room if you want the full effect.

Spotted Emu Bush

The Spotted Emu bush is just about as low maintenance and easy to grow as it gets. All it needs is a spot of sunshine and some water and it’s bound to produce a large bush of red and purple flowers. It’s a welcome addition to any garden, particularly thanks to it requiring no special attention to flourish.

The Iconic Waratah

There are fewer flowers more iconic than the Waratah. They’re not the easiest flower to grow, because they can take a while to flower and require some maintenance know-how, but if you do manage to find and grow waratahs, the results will truly be worth the effort, as these rich red flowers are amazing and very interesting to look at!

The Happy Wanderer

To cover your trellises or have a plant climb up a wall or patio support, look no further than the appropriately named Happy Wanderer, which will snake its way up and around anything it can with its vibrant purple hue flowers that will appear through winter and even into spring.  There are some varieties that offer pink, white or mauve colourations too if purple doesn’t suit.

Brachyscome Daisy

The daisy is a particularly special addition to the garden, as not only does it do very well at adding colour, it also attracts insects like butterflies and bees, improving pollination and ultimately adding even more life into the garden. The Brachyscome Daisy doesn’t get very big, at only about 30cm high, so you’ll want a few of them to make an area pop, but thanks to growers of the plant experimenting, you can get them in an almost rainbow variety of colours.

Australia has some incredibly diverse and attractive native flora, and adding it to your garden can make all the difference. Add a few of the above species to your garden to make it shine and stand out!
