Emma Goes to School

United States

Emma Goes to School is a children's book that promotes awareness and celebrates physical and nuerodiversity, about a little girl from Monstoria who's worried about fitting in.

All of the characters in Emma Goes to School represent characteristics associated with Schaaf-Yang Syndrome (SYS).

Emma, the main character, has unique claws as a nod to the hand contractures commonly seen in people diagnosed with SYS.

While meeting her classmates, Emma is able to explore many issues relating to physical and neuro-diversity, using a wheelchair, nonverbal communication, and being on the autism spectrum.

Emma Goes to School is inspired by a real girl named Emma Nelson, who was diagnosed with Schaaf-Yang Syndrome in 2016, and Autism Spectrum Disorder in 2017. For more information, please see our website
