Press Release (ePRNews.com) - Oct 05, 2016 - “A Canned Story”, one of two theatrical shows that are touring tens of middle schools in two Yemeni cities, Sanaa and Aden. While the plot is mostly similar, each show is tailored according to the needs of the local community and the challenges that face it. The shows are co-organized by RNW Media and a local Yemeni organization. The show follows the story of Osama, a Yemeni teenager, and delves into the socio-political landscape of modern Yemen. At the peak of the story, Osama faces a dilemma, and he has to make a hard choice whether to follow his passion, music, or get trapped in the cobweb of radicalization. At this point, the audience are invited to somehow “save Osama” from his possible fate, and get him back to life. The show is inspired by the experimental Theater of the Oppressed, where the “spect-actors” participate to transform the story in question. Admission is free, and the show received local and regional media coverage. Tens of hundreds of students already watched (and engaged with) the show, and thousands more are expected to watch it during the current academic semester and in the next academic year.
