Parkeon Self_service Ticketing Technology Shines in Sydney

Press Release ( - POOLE, England - Aug 08, 2016 - Self-service ticketing technology developed in the UK by Parkeon has been installed across Sydney, Australia to make multimodal travel easier and more convenient for users of the Opal smart card scheme.

The company has supplied 255 ticket vending and smart card recharge machines for Transport for New South Wales (TfNSW), enabling passengers at train, light rail and ferry terminals to buy disposable single trip cards and subscribers to reload their smart cards via cash or card.

Parkeon was selected for the project following its involvement in helping TfNSW launch Opal across the bus network in 2014, in what is the world’s largest geographically defined smart card scheme. Opal operates across a network of 308 train stations, more than 5,000 buses, 40 ferry wharves and 23 light rail stops.

Software development, test and integration activities linked to the latest stage of the project were undertaken by Parkeon engineers based in the UK.

Owen Griffith, Managing Director of Parkeon Transportation world-wide, commented: “We are delighted to be supporting the public transport strategies of TfNSW through innovative technologies. Sydney joins a growing list of world cities benefiting from our smart transport systems.”
