Press Release (ePRNews.com) - PICKERING, Ontario - Apr 08, 2016 - The Pickering Skating Club is thrilled to announce that Canadian National Silver Medalists, Piper Gilles & Paul Poirier, will be featured in the 2016 Pickering Skating Club Ice Show. Media are invited to cover the Ice Show events on April 9th, 2016 and these talented feature skaters.
Piper Gilles / Paul Poirier Story
Piper and Paul teamed up in the summer of 2011. In their four-year partnership, they have won three medals at the National Championships, and have been on the Canadian World team for the last four years. They are currently the Canadian silver medalists and finished a career-best 6th place at the World Championships in Shanghai, scoring personal bests in both programs.
After an ankle injury in May 2013 Piper and Paul failed to qualify for the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi. While it was a difficult season and a devastating result, they feel it has taught them much about themselves, their training, and their love for the sport, and has motivated them to strive for even more. Though still three years away, they already have their sights set on the Olympic podium in 2018.
Piper is from Colorado Springs, CO, and received her Canadian Citizenship in December 2014. She loves her life training here in Canada, and outside of skating studies creative industries at Ryerson University. She one day wants to design her own sports line, and in the meantime, does much of the costume design for the team. Paul is passionate about language and literature and after skating would like to continue his research in linguistics, working with and documenting endangered languages.
