Press Release (ePRNews.com) - PORT DOUGLAS, Australia - May 12, 2016 - Tourism Port Douglas and Daintree executive officer Tara Bennett said Port Douglas Carnivale continued to position itself as one of Australia’s leading festivals and with headline acts such as the Black Sorrows and Jimeoin, this year promised to be better than ever.
“Port Douglas Carnivale continues to grow and evolve and this year under the new management of Melbourne based Knock Out Events, it has been taken to a whole other level,” she said.
“The festival is a huge drawcard for visitors not only from within Queensland but also Australia wide with previous event statistics showing that 50% of the people that come through during this time are from outside the region.
“There are a lot of beds and restaurant seats to fill in May but as the event gets closer we are starting to see occupancy increase as people take up last minute deals.”
Ms Bennett said this year’s event would be geared around the Wonderland Spiegeltent Under the Palms at Dixie Park and would feature comedy, cabaret, theatre, music and more.
Setting the tone for whole weekend will be the ‘Paradise on a Plate’ Longest Lunch on Friday, May 20. Celebrating local produce, four courses will be served under the careful hand of Port Douglas Catering & Events executive chef and co-owner Tommy Young.
After lunch, all the action can be found in town with the street parade festivities kicking off in Market Park from 5pm. The street parade will commence at 6.30pm with fireworks scheduled for 9pm.
On Saturday, May 21 head down to Four Mile Beach for some good old fashioned fun at the Family Beach Day, or ‘Port on a Fork’, Food, Music & Wine showcase event on Saturday night.
The Fishermen’s Village Seafood Music Festival from 11am, Sunday May 22, will wrap up the three-day weekend.
