Press Release (ePRNews.com) - Wantagh, NY - Jan 25, 2017 - Pulse Center for Patient Safety Education & Advocacy board member Marissa Abram has been honored as part of Modern Healthcare’s 2017 Excellence in Nursing Awards. She was one of several individuals rated as “Rising Stars” in nursing. The awards are sponsored by ANA Enterprise.
According to ANA Enterprise CEO Marla Weston, “Whether they are by the bedside or in the boardroom, nurses continue to be a trusted resource and a vital part of our nation’s healthcare system . . . ANA Enterprise celebrates the 2017 Excellence in Nursing Award honorees for embracing this responsibility — to protect, promote and optimize the health of their patients while serving as role models, educators and advocates.”
Marissa has a passion for patient safety.
Ms. Abram is an assistant clinical professor of nursing at the Adelphi School of Nursing in Garden City, N.Y., where, as part of training for nurse practitioners, she has organized a program to emphasize the importance of the patient-provider partnership. She is a psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner and a credentialed alcohol and substance abuse counselor.
She has been a board member of Pulse Center for Patient Safety Education & Advocacy (Pulse CPSEA — formerly PULSE of NY) since 2014. Pulse is a nonprofit community-based organization dedicated to raising awareness about patient safety.
Pulse CPSEA President Ilene Corina commented, “Pulse has been a great match for Marissa because for 20 years the group’s aim has been to educate the community about patient safety, encouraging patients and their families to be active participants in their own care. Marissa has a passion for patient safety and is just as passionate about educating her patients. She goes a step further, working in the community to plan educational programs about patient safety and medication safety.”
