Press Release (ePRNews.com) - MELBOURNE, Australia - May 05, 2016 - About:
Two years ago i recorded an album on a laptop at home and brought in some friends to help, the end result was an album of Rebetiko songs that has since sold out and sold to people in Australia, Greece, UK and the US.
This project is for the release of a second Rebetika Album with two friends that we’ve recorded in Melbourne.
The project consists of three Melbourne Greek musicians who share a passion in Rebetika and this album will be a collection on songs from that era. The aim is to record this album ourselves, using similar methods that were used when this music first began. Single takes and live microphone-recording techniques old school and respective to the origins of this music.
Rebetika is a genre of music that was born in Greece in the 1920’s, often called the Greek blues. Like the blues; it grew out of a specific urban subculture and reflected the harsh realities of an oppressed subculture’s lifestyle. Even to this day this music still thrives in many parts of the world especially in the diaspora.
The aim of this album is to continue the reigniting interest in the genre in Australia and creating opportunities for Australian Rebetiko enthusiasts.
Project Musicians – Musicians for this project include ,
Con Kalamaras- Bouzouki/Baglama Tzoura
Illias Chatziemmanouil- Guitar/Vocals
Kon Karamountzos – Baglama/Tzoura
