Reliance Entertainment dreaming big with Bridge of Spies Oscar nominations

Press Release ( - NEW DELHI, India - Jan 19, 2016 - Nominations for Academy Awards are out and no news could’ve been happier for Anil Ambani-led Reliance Entertainment to see Bridge of Spies get nominated under 6 categories. Reliance Entertainment was a part of the production along with Steven Spielberg’s DreamWorks Pictures and Fox 2000 Pictures for the film which was also nominated for Best Picture.

“Bridge of Spies”, a historical drama-thriller, featured Tom Hanks as a Brooklyn lawyer James Donovan, who is handed over an nearly impossible task by the CIA, to defend an arrested Soviet spy (also an American U-2 pilot) in court at the worse time of Cold War. It has received Academy nominations under major categories such as Best Picture, Best Original Screenplay (Matthew Charman, Ethan Coen, Joel Coen), Best Original Score (Thomas Newman), Best Production Design (Adam Stockhausen, Rena DeAngelo and Bernard Henrich), Best Supporting Actor (Mark Rylance) and Best Sound Mixing (Andy Nelson, Gary Rydstrom and Drew Kunin) categories as announced in Los Angeles on 14th January.

This year has turned out well for Indians at the Oscars, after failing to leave a mark ever since A R Rahman won a double for Slumdog Millionaire. Apart from Reliance Entertainment, Indian American Pixar artist and director Sanjay Patel has received a nod for his animated short film “Sanjay’s Super Team” and Indian-origin British filmmaker Asif Kapadia has been nominated for “Amy.”

Reliance Entertainment is the media and entertainment branch of the Reliance Group and is renowned for its creation and distribution of content across films, television, digital and gaming platforms. Now it has made its presence felt across the globe ever since partnering with Spielberg’s DreamWorks Pictures.

“Bridge of Spies” is also leading the BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) nominations with being in race for 9 categories, which is the same as “Carol.”

It is nominated for the Best Film, Best Director (Steven Spielberg), Best Supporting Actor (Mark Rylance), Best Original Screenplay, Best Original Music, Best Cinematography (Janusz Kaminski), Best Editing (Michael Kahn), Best Production Design and Best Sound (Drew Kunin, Richard Hymns, Andy Nelson, Gary Rydstrom).

The 88th Academy Awards will be held on February 28 here, while the BAFTA Awards will be given out on February 14th.
