Saint Monica University Appoints Associate Provost of Academic Affairs

Press Release (ePRNews.com) - BUEA, Cameroon - Aug 12, 2016 - Saint Monica University (SMU): The American International University today announced that Dr. Marcelus Utokoro Ajonina has been named the Associate Provost of Academic Affairs. As Associate Provost he will assist the Provost who supervises and has oversight of curricular, instructional, and research affairs at SMU.

“I feel privileged to be given the opportunity to put SMU’s vision into practice,” said Dr. Marcelus Utokoro Ajonina, the new Associate Provost of Academic Affairs at SMU. “I intend to work in collegiality and collaboratively with peers in order to connect curricular and co-curricular learning experiences, to improve student services, and to support student success. I’ll support the Provost in advancing the strategic direction and mission of the University, and guiding faculty in their review and development of academic programs from a larger context.”

The various deans of a University’s various schools will report directly to the Associate Provost. Given that he represents the Provost, he may also supervise the Associate Vice Presidents responsible for the Office of Registrar; the Office Distance Education and Learning Resources; and the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs. The Provost has oversight of all educational affairs and activities, including research and academic personnel.

“Dr. Ajonina has work experience at an American university and is best qualified to help shape the academic activities at Saint Monica University,” said Professor Januarius Jingwa (JJ) Asongu, President and Chief Executive Officer of SMU. “He has displayed a commitment to the University’s mission and academic programs, which center on challenging the mind, inspiring the soul, and fostering positive involvement in community and society leading to responsible citizenship. Furthermore, he has experience with strategic planning, budgeting, instructional resource allocation, assessment, and accreditation.”

Prior to being named as Associate Provost of Academic Affairs, Dr. Ajonina was the Associate Vice President for Institutional Research and Effectiveness at SMU. During the last academic year, he spent time at Savannah State University in Savannah, GA, where he shadowed various offices. Before joining SMU, he worked for various private higher institutions in Buea. His academic credentials include a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Health Sciences from Charisma University in the British West Indies; and a Master of Science degree and a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry from the University of Buea, Cameroon.
