Press Release (ePRNews.com) - STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. - Nov 01, 2018 - One in five Americans – nearly 60 million people – live and work in rural areas. State Offices of Rural Health (SORH), rural healthcare providers, industry partners, Federal and state agencies alike will join the National Organization of State Offices of Rural Health (NOSORH) on Thursday, November 15, 2018 to observe award-winning National Rural Health Day, an annual day of recognition that celebrates the “power of rural” and strives to give a voice to the efforts of those who are working to serve the unique healthcare needs that exist in America’s rural communities.
As part of National Rural Health Day, NOSORH will join the Rural Health Information Hub (RHIhub) in a Twitter Chat focused on access to health care in rural communities. The discussion will begin at 12:00 p.m. ET on November 15. Follow Twitter conversations with @NOSORH and @ruralhealthinfo using #RuralHealthChat.
In addition to web-based events, NOSORH partnered once again with Walk with a Doc, an organization founded by Columbus, Ohio based cardiologist Dr. David Sabgir, who in 2005, launched a grassroots campaign designed to promote behavior change aimed at improving the health of patients. Today, Walk with a Doc has over 400 Chapters in the U.S. and abroad. Rural health organizations, including hospitals, clinics, and EMS agencies have been invited to host a special walk on November 15. Walks are scheduled to occur at various locations in Georgia, Missouri, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Tennessee. For details and updated information on walks and other activities, visit http://www.PowerofRural.org.
On National Rural Health Day, NOSORH is asking all in support of this annual celebration to use the #PowerofRural in social media throughout the day, as well as share the many tools that have been developed to help transform this event into a sustainable movement.
