Reading has been the primary hobby of people for a long time. With changing times, the mediums of reading have evolved. These days one can find eBooks on various online platforms like Viewermax. The people who love reading need to be aware of the 4 main types of story structures that dominate novels so that they can distinguish between the various types of novels.

The milieu story:

The milieu story refers to the world. The planet, the society, the weather, the family, all the elements that come up during the world creation phase. Every story has a milieu, but there are certain stories that have milieu as the main theme. Milieu stories always tend to follow a specific structure. They consist of an observer who sees things, observes things that interest him, gets transformed by what he sees and comes back as a completely new person. This structure is mostly found in science fiction and fantasy, but it can also occur in other types of novels.

The idea story:

Idea stories have a really simple structure. The idea of the story starts by raising a question and it ends when the question is answered. Such stories are about the process of seeking and discovering new information through the eyes of the characters who are driven to make the discoveries. Majority of the mystery novels out there follow this structure.

The character story:

Character stories focus on the transformation of a character’s role in the communities that matter the most to him or her. Such stories are mostly always about one or more characters. But the story is not about who the character is rather it focuses more on how the character affects the surrounding environment. The structure of a character story is as simple as any of the others. The story begins with the protagonists being very distressed and unhappy with their current role and they need a change. It ends when the protagonist has successfully changed his or her role and settled into the new role.

The event story:

In the event story, something bad has already happened and the world is out of order. A previous order has been disrupted and chaos prevails. The event story ends at the point when a new order has been established, or the old order has been restored. The story does not begin at the point when the world becomes disordered. Rather it begins at the point when the character whose actions matter the most gets involved in the struggle.
