Radio personality GiGi Diaz kicked off the safety party with music from 93.9 Mia – Variety from the 80s, 90s, and today. Families were welcomed with a delicious BBQ lunch, courtesy of Subaru of Pembroke Pines, Florida’s #1 Volume Subaru Store. The lunch buffet featured a children’s menu with hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken nuggets, cookies, brownies and San Bernardo Ice Cream.
During the event, certified safety technicians from Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital hosted workshops, covering several topics such as bicycle safety, car safety, and water safety. There were also workshops on how to practice safety measures at home when using household products and outdoors in the sun. The City of Pembroke Pines Police Department hosted a safety workshop, and S.W.A.T. Team Officers gave one-on-one safety demonstrations to children who were excited to try on the safety gear. Parents and caregivers were able to have their children photographed and fingerprinted at the SPP Operation Kidsafe fingerprint station. The Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital Mobile Health Center was stationed at the dealership during the event, offering free essential health and back-to-school screenings, as well as many other services.
“This was a great event for children to learn more about safety issues. As a neurosurgeon, I very much appreciated the focus on helmet safety and showing people how to properly fit helmets for their children. The kids also enjoyed getting to talk with police officers and being able to see the mobile Joe DiMaggio health unit,” said Dr. Heather Spader, Neurosurgeon at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital.
One of the biggest highlights of the day was an appearance by Craig Zinn’s vintage 1925 Alma Fire Truck and 1963 Ford Galaxy Police Car, which are part of his AmaZINN Car Collection. Event-goers had the opportunity to climb aboard and even play the sirens. Everyone enjoyed raffles, give-a-ways, as well as an arts and crafts station hosted by artist Carolina Tejeda featuring an interactive activity with Hope the Blue Robot.
“At the Craig Zinn Automotive Group supporting kid’s health, wellness and safety programs is a top priority. Through our community partnership between Subaru of Pembroke Pines and Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, we were able to provide educational safety workshops and health services to local families free of charge,” said Craig Zinn, founder and CEO at the Craig Zinn Automotive Group.
