In Nevada there are over 400 martial arts schools of which 90% practice or participate using light-to medium contact to vital areas for scoring. This is what has come to be known as point martial arts, sport karate or add whatever disciple you like.
The NMAL would like to this sport professional allowing team members the opportunity to get paid to compete. Over the years martial artists may have competed in national circuits that were unfair or political and may no longer compete, there are also those that practice to stay in shape. There are currently over 500 tournament circuits in the United States that have numerous tournaments throughout the year so martial artists are already accustomed to competing with rules, safety equipment and points. Natural progression to determine the best competitors for a professional team to represent a state would be a tournament. Not all martial arts tournaments are successful but just imagine what could happen to annual tournament over time if it were the team eliminations event to determine the best 13 competitors to represent Nevada in a national championship.
