The Risk Of Buying Medicines From Unreliable Online Pharmacies
There has been a call for better awareness among Americans since many are jeopardizing their health when they buy prescription drugs online from fake online pharmacies.

Press Release ( - Surrey, BC - Aug 10, 2017 - A survey was conducted by the Alliance for Safe Online Pharmacies (ASOP), which found that 55 percent of the American population has bought a prescription drug online. Apart from that, the survey also predicted that 74 percent of the people who bought medicines online were most likely to do it again sometime in the future. Online prescription drugs are cost-effective and hassle-free. This is the main reason why people lean towards the online platform.

ASOP is concerned with the risks of online medicine purchase, since many pharmacies online do not comply with the standards set by the FDA. The survey revealed that every one in five people who use online pharmacies, used a simple search on the internet to find a pharmacy. They do not check with the list of government approved lists of pharmacies. Over half of these people who were surveyed (51 percent), confessed that they did not use an online pharmacy which was affiliated with their local pharmacy.

A staggering 91 percent of the surveyed consumers were not aware about the legitimacy of the online pharmacies they were buying from. A total of 95 percent weren’t aware about the information needed to verify whether a pharmacy is legitimate or not. There are over 33,000 illegal pharmacies online, which is a large number and searching for “buy prescription drugs online” will pull up all kinds of websites that include legitimate and illegitimate sites. This increases the chances of an average consumer receiving counterfeit and unsafe medicines.

The survey interviewed around 500 consumers to put out the stats and it comes at a crucial time. It is timely since Congress is already aiming to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act or better known as Obamacare. Of the total number of people who have bought from an online pharmacy, 19 percent have bought it from a Canadian online pharmacy & 11 percent were more likely to use a Canadian pharmacy to buy medicines online. This is because real Canadian pharmacies are more reliable than any other out there.

There is a constant and rising need to spread awareness about legitimate online pharmacies and the risks surrounding it. The probability of ordering from a fake pharmacy online and receiving counterfeit medicines is extremely high at this moment. Proper care should be taken while verifying the legitimacy of an online pharmacy.
