The sport of Strongman continues to grow by leaps and bounds. Much of the recent increase in popularity has been in Strongwoman contests. The time is right to elevate the best Strongwomen in the world to professional status and give them a platform to compete.
On March 3-5, 2017, Strongman fans and athletes will gather in Columbus, Ohio for the Arnold Amateur World Championships. Athletes will compete in six divisions, including women’s lightweight, middleweight, and heavyweight, and men’s lightweight, middleweight, and open. The yearly Arnold Amateur Strongman World Championships are hosted by Strongman Corporation. This facilitates the competition of global and American amateur strongman contenders to take part in a competition for the title of Arnold Amateur Strongman World Champion and attain skilled strongman standing.
The first-ever major women’s professional Strongwoman contest in the world takes the pace at the Arnold Sports Festival. The inaugural Arnold Pro Strongwoman will make its debut from March 2-5, 2017 in Columbus. The world’s top Strongwomen will be invited to compete for cash prizes and the Katie Sandwina Trophy. The Arnold Pro Strongwoman contest is modeled after the Arnold Strongman Classic, which has been held annually at the Arnold Sports Festival since 2002 and is regarded as the most prestigious title in professional Strongman.
Dione Wessels is CEO/President of Strongman Corporation. Dione is a former record holding power lifter, national champion strongwoman, a division one track athlete and holds three degrees in accounting, nursing, and education and has earned a Master’s Degree in adolescent counseling. The Arnold Amateur Strongman World Championships, proved to be one of the Arnold Sports Festival’s most popular events when it debuted in 2010. It will once again feature more than 180 athletes from 26 countries.
The Arnold Sports Festival, founded by Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jim Lorimer in 1989, is the nation’s largest multi-sports festival with more than 18,000 athletes competing in more than 70 sports events. Arnold Classic Worldwide festivals are also held in Australia, South America, Africa and Europe. The Arnold Sports Festival has hosted the Arnold Amateur Strongman World Championships since 2010. Amateur Strongwoman events were added in 2015. The Arnold Sports Festival has grown over time into a four-day festival featuring a range of sports, which include weightlifting, professional and amateur bodybuilding, powerlifting and strongman. The Arnold Pro Strongwoman is the latest offshoot of the Arnold Sports Festival which takes place annually in Columbus, Ohio, USA.
History: Strength, dedication and achievement is the mantra of the Strongman Corporation which was established in 2014 as the premier strongman corporation in the world with the purpose of serving as an umbrella to amateur (North American Strongman Inc.) and professional (American Strongman Corp.) organizations. The NAS was formed in 1997 and ASC was formed in 2004, Strongman Corporation was formed to merge both groups. The American Strongman Corporation (ASC) is the sole sanctioning and governing body for the sport of professional strongman in the United States. Since 2001, the organization has grown to include over 44 affiliates nationally and over 26 affiliates internationally.
Qualifiers: The Arnold Pro Strongman World Series features qualifiers throughout the year at Arnold Classic multi-sport festivals in Australia, South America, Africa, Europe and Hong Kong. The winner of each event qualifies for the Arnold Pro Strongman Championships in Columbus Ohio. Two additional spots will be awarded through points awarded at all qualifiers. IE, a second place spot earns 9 pints, 3rd place 8 points and so on. All athletes qualify through victories or high finishes at the Arnold Pro Strongman World Series events except for the current year Arnold Amateur world championship winner via Strongman Corporation. The highest placing (Winner) amateur athlete also earns a spot and the following years Arnold Pro Strongman World Championships in Columbus, Ohio. Starting in 2018, the winning amateur athlete will have to compete at a minimum of one Arnold Strongman International event with expenses provided by Strongman Corporation.
