True Wearables' New Board of Directors

Press Release (ePRNews.com) - Rancho Santa Margarita, CA - Oct 03, 2016 - ​​​​​​​​​​True Wearables, a medical device startup based in Orange County, CA, and developer of Oxxiom, the world’s first wireless, continuous, fully disposable, single use pulse oximeter, announced today four new board members.

According to Marcelo Lamego, Chairman of the Board and CEO of True Wearables, “these outstanding individuals will bring to the Board not only their extraordinary knowledge in strategic management, health-care, engineering, and operations, but also a global experience and expertise that will strengthen the core of our business. We aim at creating low cost, reliable, fully disposable, and wireless devices that will disrupt the medical industry and make the world a better place.”

Bernard Widrow, Director

Dr. Bernard Widrow received the S.B., S.M., and Sc.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1951, 1953, and 1956, respectively. He joined the MIT faculty and taught there from 1956 to 1959. In 1959, he joined the faculty of Stanford University, where he is currently Professor of Electrical Engineering, Emeritus.

He began research on adaptive filters, learning processes, and artificial neural models in 1957. Together with M.E. Hoff, Jr., his first doctoral student at Stanford, he invented the LMS algorithm in the autumn of 1959. Today, this is the most widely used learning algorithm, used in every MODEM in the world. He has continued working on adaptive signal processing, adaptive controls, and neural networks since that time.

Dr. Widrow is a Life Fellow of the IEEE. He received the IEEE Centennial Medal in 1984, the IEEE Alexander Graham Bell Medal in 1986, the IEEE Signal Processing Society Medal in 1986, the IEEE Neural Networks Pioneer Medal in 1991, the IEEE Millennium Medal in 2000, and the Benjamin Franklin Medal for Engineering from the Franklin Institute of Philadelphia in 2001. He was inducted into the National Academy of Engineering in 1995 and into the Silicon Valley Engineering Council Hall of Fame in 1999.

Dr. Widrow is a past president and member of the Governing Board of the International Neural Network Society. He is the author of over 125 technical papers and 21 patents. He is co-author of Adaptive Signal Processing and Adaptive Inverse Control, both Prentice-Hall books, and Quantization Noise published by Cambridge University Press in June 2008.

Nils Tarnow, Director

Dr. Nils Tarnow is currently the Managing Director and founding partner at Bridge Business Advisors, a management consulting company. From 2010 to 2012, he served as Director of Strategic Planning and Business Development at Usiminas, a steel and mining conglomerate in Brazil. Prior to that, Dr. Tarnow was the Managing Director (Brazil) for Management Engineers (later acquired by Booz, then by PWC) from 2007 to 2010, and the Director of Strategic Planning at Banco Santander from 2005 to 2007. Dr. Tarnow also served as Managing Director and Partner at The Boston Consulting Group, in Brazil, from 2000 to 2005, and as an Associate Principal at McKinsey & Company in Germany, Japan, and Brazil from 1993 to 1999.

Dr. Tarnow holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering/Aeronautics and M.S. in Mathematics from Stanford University, a M.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of California Berkeley, and a Diploma in Civil Engineering (with honors) from Leibniz University, Hanover, Germany (1988).

Anthony Allan, Director

Mr. Anthony (Tony) Allan is the Chief Operating Officer and President of Green Ray LED International LLC, a leading manufacturer and turn-key service provider of high efficiency LED lighting solutions for commercial and industrial usage in North and South America.

Prior to joining Green Ray in April 2015, Mr. Allan served as the Chief Operating Officer at Zygo Corporation, a global leader in optical metrology instruments, high precision optical components, and complex electro-optical systems design and manufacturing services, from February 2013 to October 2014. Additionally, he has served as the Chief Operating Officer of Masimo Corporation, a global medical technology company that develops and manufactures noninvasive patient monitoring technologies, and as the Vice President of Global Business Units, Instrumentation and Medical Device, at Jabil Circuit Inc., a global electronics contract manufacturing services company.

Mr. Allan holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Quality Engineering from Paisley University and H.N.D. in Engineering from Glasgow College.

Robson Capasso, Director

Dr. Robson Capasso, MD, FAASM, is the Chief of Sleep Surgery and Assistant Professor of Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery at Stanford University School of Medicine. His quite extensive and unique training includes medical school and residency in Head and Neck Surgery, Neurosciences and Sleep Medicine.

Dr. Capasso has published extensively including book chapters, articles and original papers in peer-reviewed journals, and has been an investigator on imaging and endoscopic modalities for pre-treatment evaluation, and surgical treatment of obstructive sleep apnea patients.  Currently his research interests have a focus on clinical utilization of smartphone applications and consumer based devices for sleep disordered breathing, biomarkers for obstructive sleep apnea, and post-tonsillectomy bleeding management. 

The local and international recognition of his work is often associated with one of his favorite tasks: lecturing and trading knowledge nationally and internationally. He has been a mentor or supervisor to hundreds of medical students, residents, fellows or visiting scholars from more than 20 countries.
