UK Investors seeking opportunities in Ghana, reports Healy Consultants

Press Release ( - SINGAPORE - Oct 05, 2016 - UK businesses are keen on exploring business opportunities in Ghana, with the United Kingdom-Ghana Chamber of Commerce (UKGCC) set to host a multisector business trip to Accra, Capital of Ghana, this month for investors, importers and exporters, British brands and SMEs.

The UK group will be on a five day Ghana Investment Tour to boost trade relations between the two economies. The tour, slotted for Friday October 16, will focus on showcasing investment and collaborative opportunities in Ghana’s technology, agriculture and tourism sectors for UK businesses.

A statement issued by the Chief Executive Officer of the UKGCC, Tony Burkson, stated that the opportunity will also provide a podium for UK business and investors to liaise with potential local partners, key regulators and leading players in the country’s private sector.

“Ghana remains an exciting prospect for British companies due to its historic trading relationships with the UK. British expertise and innovation is highly sought after in Ghana and the wider West Africa region,” said Burkson.

“The Ghana Investment Tour is an opportunity for British companies to meet decision makers, regulators and potential business partners in Ghana. The UKGCC is excited to welcome British business to Accra in October for the Ghana Investment Tour,” he added.

Ghana is a preferred choice for foreign companies, entrepreneurs and investors looking to make their first steps in exporting to Africa. Ghana presents benefits including access to the ECOWAS (Economic Community of West African States) markets with a large consumer base and a fast-growing middle class.

With a robust bilateral trade of goods and services exceeding 1billion British pounds in the year 2014, Ghana remains among UK’s top five largest export markets in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Among the top exports from the UK to Ghana include pharmaceutical products, motor vehicles, electrical appliances and machinery and petroleum products whereas top imports from Ghana include tinned fish, cocoa, coffee, metal scrap and fruit and vegetables among others.
