The first building we are shown is in the trendy district of Gracia, or “Vila de Gracia”.
This project to sell luxury apartments is in a building of Carrer Josep Torres, 20. It has a wonderful façade dating from 1892 when the building was first built. The building’s origins are shrouded in local supernatural myth and legend with some of the statues on the façade depicting strange heads and figures.
The building has been left abandoned for some time and will need quite considerable refurbishment. Fortunately it is in the hands of one of the best architectural and building companies in the city of Barcelona. They have drawn up some impressive plans for 8 top notch luxury apartments. The second building is in the Born area. It is a smaller building in Portal Nou street. It seems the plans here are similar as for the Gràcia building.
“Yes we have also wanted to bet on the highest possible spec and also, as with Gracia, something a little different. Where in Gracia we wanted to add a pool here the builders have decided to make just 3 apartments where most other people would opt for 5 or even 6.”
The building in Portal Nou dates from th 1850s and combines every element to create the perfect city residence. It’s a quiet residential street yet it is only 3 minutes walk from the Arc de Triumfo monument and the big Cuitadela park.
“People come to Barcelona to enjoy themselves. No one wants to spend time in pubilc transport like in London or Paris.” Mike tell us. “The maximum walking time to one of the best Japanese restaurants, Nakashita, is possibly 3 minutes if you drag your feet a little!”.
The building is tall and narrow and this is why the developer has opted to make 3 apartments consisting of two duplex properties and one other.
“We like to say that each apartment will feel different, but every one will feel like home.” Mike continues.”The philosophy here is that the project doesn’t have to follow traditional interior design conventions. We wanted something different because our clients want something different.”
“The gournd floor duplex will have its own garden and the penthouse duplex its own roof terrace.” Mike laughs. “This is not say the property in the middle is the worst choice. It runs end to end in the building and so has a front and a back terrace and has a totally open plan design to give a loft feeling to it.”
