Press Release (ePRNews.com) - MOSCOW, Russian Federation - Dec 20, 2016 - “We would like to bring the joy of reading emoji rebus stories to everyone, so all rebus books based on Hans Christian Andersen’s and Brothers Grimm’s fairy tales will be available for free under the Creative Commons license. The first 2 rebus books with fairy tales will be available on vaikon.com on 14th of December.” said Kristina Semenova, founder of Vaikon.
Vaikon Rebus titles, including rebus stories of Alice’s Adventures, Around the World in 80 Days, Black Beauty, A Christmas Carol and The Call of the Wild are already available on Amazon and TeachersPayTeachers. More than 15 new books are planned for publication during the next 12 months.
Vaikon’s writing system is based on the universal ideograms, so all the icons can be recognized without language barriers. We wanted to create appealing rebus stories with cute and colorful characters and symbols, so now all Vaikon books are featuring cats, heroes, candies and emoji.
Vaikon Rebus dictionary is available in the appendix of each book and contains basic meanings of Vaikon icons. Most of the icons have additional meanings: cognates, synonyms, plural nouns, phrasal verbs and past tense verbs. Some of them have up to 50 different word matches. In such cases it is important to look into the context to correctly identify the exact meaning.

Although Unicode Emoji and Vaikon Rebus share similar icons, they were developed with different purposes. Emoji are great for messaging, but there are a lot of highly specialized symbols like “Rolling Eyes”, “Passport Control”, “Carp Streamer” and even “Up-Pointing Red Triangle”. In Vaikon we have tried to design icons for the most common words in English, which are still missing from the Unicode Emoji library.
