Dr. Holmes says about the new online visit feature: “Washington DC Dermatology is proud to be on the cutting edge of telemedicine and to be one of the first dermatology practices in the Washington DC metropolitan area to offer patients this modern service. A virtual online appointment benefits the patient by addressing their medical needs fast and securely – and with a high quality of care and personal attention they can expect from an in-office visit.”
Here’s how it works:
· An online visit with Washington DC Dermatology guides patients through several simple steps of creating a patient profile, collecting some medical history, uploading photos of the problem condition and getting the patient’s description of the condition.
· After her review, Dr. Holmes provides a detailed online response that includes a diagnosis and personalized treatment plan within three business days, along with routing any necessary prescriptions to the patient’s preferred pharmacy.
· When medically necessary, the patient will be referred for an in-office visit.
The service can also be used by parents or guardians to conduct online visits for children or others, without needing to miss work or school. Among the more than 3,000 conditions for which patients can access the system are acne, rashes, eczema, rosacea, psoriasis, toenail fungus, suspicious moles, dandruff and more.
The online visit solution is enabled through Washington DC Dermatology’s partnership with Iagnosis, the largest provider of a teledermatology-exclusive platform currently used by more than 100 board-certified dermatologists across the U.S. The solution is compliant with HIPAA and HITECH national online healthcare information standards for patient security. Some state regulations (such as in Maryland) may require a brief video call between patient and doctor to complete a first-time visit.
Says Iagnosis’ CEO, Dave Zynn: “Our commitment is to partner with high-quality dermatologists like Dr. Holmes who recognize the need to employ modern solutions to increase patient access to their specialty care. We are very excited about this partnership to bring this benefit to the DC metro area.”
