3 Tips For Giving A Sentimental Holiday Gift

3 Tips For Giving A Sentimental Holiday Gift

With the holiday season upon us, many people are now on the search for a great gift for a special someone. And after enduring all that we have this year, you might be finding yourself leaning more toward sentimental gifts as opposed to gifts in other categories.

If this is the direction your holiday gift-giving is going, here are three tips for giving a sentimental holiday gift this year.

Tell A Story

In your relationship with the person, you’re getting the gift for, you likely have one or two stories together that really represent your past. With these stories and memories in mind, try to think of a kind of gift that you could get them that would remind them of this time you spent together.

According to Melissa Repko, a contributor to CNBC.com, almost anything could tell the story that you’re trying to convey as long as it’s a solid representation of that time in your relationship. For example, a piece of jewelry that reminds you of your story together could be a great sentimental gift. Also, something like a photo collage or other visual representation of the story you’re wanting to tell would be a great option, too.

Create An Event To Go Along With The Gift

Sometimes, it’s not the actual gift that you give someone that makes it sentimental but the way in which you give them that gift.

Knowing this, Cheryl S. Grant, a contributor to Reader’s Digest, suggests that you create an event around the gift that you’re planning to give. While this event could be the gift in and of itself, like giving them some kind of experience that they either can do on their own or with you, you could also make the way you give the gift something that’s memorable and meaningful, like surprising them at their favorite place or in front of their family and friends.

The Gift Of Humor

After what everyone has been through this year, you may find yourself wanting to give both a sentimental and a humorous gift to your loved one.

To best do this, Kaela Worthen Gardner, a contributor to the Huffington Post, shares that you should either go with giving them something the really love but a huge amount of it, like a 20 lbs. bag of potatoes for someone who loves potato products, or something that doesn’t really make sense for them but will make them laugh regardless. Based on your relationship, you should know what kind of gift will hit them right in their funny bone.

If you’re wanting to give someone a very special gift that shows them how much you know, love, and care for them, consider using the tips mentioned above to help you find the perfect sentimental gift.
