Airtel Business Collaborates with Adani Energy Solutions to Deploy 20 Million Smart Meters
Jan 09, 2024: Airtel Business, the business-to-business (B2B) arm of Bharti Airtel, a prominent telecommunications service provider in India, announced today a transformative collaboration with Adani Energy Solutions Limited (AESL) to empower over 20 million smart meters. Airtel Business will leverage its robust nationwide communications network to provide reliable and secure connectivity for AESL’s extensive smart meter deployments.
Through its innovative smart metering solutions driven by Narrowband Internet of Things (NB-IoT), 4G, and 2G technologies, Airtel aims to ensure real-time connectivity and uninterrupted transfer of critical data between smart meters and headend applications. The solution will incorporate Airtel’s IoT platform, ‘Airtel IoT Hub,’ enhancing smart meter tracking and monitoring with advanced analytics and diagnostic capabilities, alongside real-time insights and services that empower consumers with increased control over their energy consumption.
Ganesh Lakshminarayanan, CEO of Airtel Business (India), highlighted the significance of India’s smart metering program as a pivotal policy reform initiative by the government. Smart meters, he noted, are crucial components for smart grids and fundamental enablers for the digitalization of the power sector. Airtel anticipates its NB-IoT technology to play a substantial role in connecting and managing smart meters at scale, ensuring enhanced coverage, high reliability, and security.
