Santa Clara, Calif, Jan 05, 2024: Semiconductor company AMD is gearing up to revolutionize the automotive industry with its cutting-edge technologies, as announced ahead of CES 2024. The company is set to expand its automotive portfolio with the introduction of two groundbreaking devices—the Versal AI Edge XA adaptive SoC and Ryzen Embedded V2000A Series processor. These innovations underscore AMD’s leadership in automotive technology, catering to crucial segments such as infotainment, advanced driver safety, and autonomous driving.

The Versal AI Edge XA adaptive SoCs feature an advanced AI Engine, making them highly versatile for various next-generation automotive applications. These applications include forward cameras, in-cabin monitoring, LiDAR, 4D radar, surround-view, automated parking, and autonomous driving. Notably, the Versal AI Edge XA adaptive SoCs are the first AMD 7nm devices to be auto-qualified, bringing robust IP and enhanced security to automotive applications where safety is paramount.

On the other hand, the Ryzen Embedded V2000A Series processors are designed to power the next generation of automotive digital cockpits. From infotainment consoles to digital clusters and passenger displays, these processors offer a seamless and powerful performance. They bring a PC-like experience to in-vehicle environments, meeting consumer expectations for home entertainment on the go.

Salil Raje, Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Adaptive and Embedded Computing Group at AMD, emphasized the company’s commitment to advancing the automotive industry. Raje stated, “Our expanding and highly diversified AMD automotive portfolio presents a significant opportunity to serve this high-growth market while also underscoring the tremendous synergy of our combined automotive teams since the acquisition of Xilinx almost two years ago.”

The Versal AI Edge XA adaptive SoCs, equipped with AI Engines, offer several advantages for AI compute, vision, and signal processing. They are optimized for AI inference on large data sets and can be utilized in various edge sensors, including LiDARs, radars, and cameras. The SoCs can handle different AI models, such as classification and feature tracking. The devices range from 20k to 521k LUTs and from 5 TOPs to 171 TOPs, providing scalability for designers with consistent tools, ecosystem, and safety certifications. The first release of these devices is expected in early 2024.

James Hodgson, Research Director at ABI Research, highlighted the significance of powerful and efficient AI compute platforms in the future of autonomous vehicles. He stated, “The number of highly automated vehicles* shipping each year is set to grow at a CAGR of 41% between 2024 and 2030, signaling a healthy growth opportunity for suppliers of heterogeneous SoCs with powerful and efficient AI compute, including the AMD Versal AI Edge XA.”

In terms of in-vehicle experiences, the AMD Ryzen Embedded V2000A Series processor delivers impressive performance and multitasking capabilities for infotainment and in-vehicle experiences. Built on innovative 7nm process technology with ‘Zen 2’ cores and high-performance AMD Radeon Vega 7 graphics, this processor sets a new standard for automotive-grade devices. It supports high-definition graphics, enhanced security features, and automotive software enablement through hypervisors. The Ryzen Embedded V2000A Series processor is positioned to provide consumers with a premium entertainment, connectivity, and safety experience on the go.
