French Decree Addresses Safety of Bunk Beds and High Beds
Press Release (ePRNews.com) - GENEVA, Switzerland - Feb 07, 2016 - Revised EN 747-1 Replaces Existing European Standards
New European standards for bunk beds and high beds have been published and will supersede the existing European standards no later than November 2015. EN 747-1:2012+A1:2015 Bunk beds and high beds – safety, strength and durability requirements will supersede EN 747-1:2012. EN 747-2:2012+A1:2015 Bunk beds and high beds – test methods will supersede EN 747-2:2012.
In September 2015, the French government issued a notice to the decree 95-949 dated August 25,1995 on prevention of risks resulting from the use of bunk beds for domestic and non domestic use.
Please find the link to the notice below [1].
French Market Primarily Affected
This notice makes it mandatory for bunk beds on the French market with an upper surface of the top bed base of 600mm or more to conform to the new standard.
Products conforming to the former version of the standard can be put on the market until September 2016, and existing stock already on the market is allowed to be sold.
NF D 62 100-1: 2010 and NF D 62 100-2: 2010 are still mentioned in the notice, and so it is mandatory for loft beds with fixed platforms.
More details about the EN 747 amendment are available in the SafeGuardS bulletin below [2].
