HFCL Bags Rs. 1,127 Crores Deal to Overhaul BSNL’s Optical Transport Network
New Delhi, Jan 01, 2024: In a significant move, HFCL Limited has clinched a mammoth contract worth Rs. 1,127 Crores from Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) to revamp its Optical Transport Network (OTN) infrastructure across the country.
The telecommunication industry is gearing up for the advent of 5G networks, and with an increasing demand for widespread broadband connectivity, service providers are facing the challenge of upgrading their backhaul transport. In response, HFCL has secured the contract to not only meet the growing needs of Enterprise and FTTH/Broadband services but also to position BSNL for the future with the integration of 4G and anticipation of 5G services.
In collaboration with NOKIA Network, HFCL aims to deploy state-of-the-art optical technology, signalling a commitment to deliver solutions beyond industry standards. The project encompasses an overhaul of BSNL’s network at over 300 large network nodes and 2000 amplifier sites, with the entire process expected to conclude within 18 months.

The ambitious project aims to augment BSNL’s data capacity to an impressive 12 terabytes, ensuring fulfilment of its data needs for the next decade. Covering 310 aggregation locations, the backbone network is poised to play a pivotal role in bolstering 4G, 5G, and BharatNet services, positioning BSNL as a frontrunner in India’s ongoing digital revolution.
