LG and Magna Unveil Groundbreaking Future Mobility Platform, To Showcase at CES 2024
New Delhi, India, Jan 04, 2024: LG Electronics, in collaboration with global mobility tech company Magna, is set to redefine the future of autonomous driving and in-vehicle infotainment with a pioneering cross-domain platform. The platform seamlessly integrates Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), Automated Driving (AD), and In-Vehicle Infotainment (IVI) technologies, aiming to offer a transformative user experience within the vehicle cabin.
The collaborative effort, initiated in 2023, has resulted in a game-changing mobility platform that will be privately demonstrated to major automakers at CES 2024. This cutting-edge platform, developed as a single System on Chip (SoC), combines a cross-domain cockpit computing system to deliver a flexible and cost-effective solution for Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs).
The single electronic module supports multiple IVI systems and ADAS/AD domain integration, efficiently meeting various Automotive Safety Integrity Level (ASIL) requirements. This streamlined solution reduces the number of electronic control units and packaging space, making it an ideal fit for the evolving landscape of Software-Defined Vehicles (SDV) and the consolidation of electrical/electronic architecture. The integration into a single module allows real-time data sharing across domains.
LG’s platform, facilitated through a dedicated Human Machine Interface (HMI), promises to provide drivers and passengers with enhanced experiences and more intuitive interactions. This includes advanced automotive displays, digital clusters, Augmented Reality-Head Up Displays (AR-HUD), and visualization software. The solution is customizable to meet the integrated communications and IVI system needs of any OEM, with expectations that 2027 model year vehicles will be the first to benefit from this groundbreaking technology.
Eun Seok-hyun, President of LG Vehicle Component Solutions Company, expressed satisfaction with the progress made.
“We are extremely pleased with the progress we have made on this future mobility technology,” said Eun Seok-hyun, president of LG Vehicle component Solutions Company. “LG and Magna’s joint efforts will help push the industry forward, facilitating the rapid adoption of crucial technologies that elevate driving safety and the on-road experience.”
This collaboration builds on the successful partnership between LG and Magna, as seen in the LG Magna e-Powertrain joint venture. Announced in 2021, this venture combines Magna’s expertise in electric powertrain systems with LG’s capabilities in component development for e-motors, inverters, and on-board chargers. The partnership, covering engineering, design, and manufacturing, positions LG and Magna to proactively respond to market trends and deliver innovative solutions to meet evolving customer needs.
