The Africa Institute is Offering a Wealth of Information about Africa and its Culture

Press Release (ePRNews.com) - Sharjah, UAE - Dec 17, 2019 - The Africa Institute is a well-known interdisciplinary academic research center focused on studying, researching, and documenting all things Africa, its people, its intricate past, present & past as well as its manifold connections with the outside world. The Africa Institute is a globally-oriented entity with a prime focus on social science and humanities that will have a postgraduate studies programme providing both PhD and masters degrees – with the objective of training the upcoming generation of critical thinkers in Africa as well as African diaspora studies. The institute is run by passionate individuals and presents an opportunity for the new generation to get intimate with Africa as a whole.

Talking about Africa, the Institute’s Spokesperson said, “As we know, Africa is the second-largest as well as the second-most populous continent in the world, which means it has a lot to offer. Africa is united by its 54 countries, which have lots of stories behind them known around the globe. Not only is Africa known for its past, but also its present – and we continue to achieve major milestones every day as a continent. That said, at The Africa Institute, we’re all about exploring the history, present and the amazing stories that Africa has to offer. With such knowledge at the grasp of the new generation, we believe not only will Africa become a better place, but the whole world will be impacted.”

The idea for The Africa Institute establishment goes back as far as the year 1976 when Sharjah hosted the Symposium on African and Arab Relations (the first of its own) to which 45 Arab and African thinkers were invited to participate. It was from this humble gathering that the center came to fruition, with years later, the Government of the Emirate Sharjah, UAE, deciding to pursue the initiative of strengthening Afro-Arab relations through the establishment of The Africa Institute, which was decreed on June 6, 2018. With a focus on humanities and social sciences, the institute is making major strides with the goal being to make an impact around the globe.

The Global Africa conference was an international conference that was held on March 12-14, 2019, in Sharjah, UAE. The three-day conference was held the first of its kind to take place in the newly rebuilt Africa Hall, which was initially constructed in the year 1976. Welcoming individuals from around Africa and around the globe, the conference aimed at assessing the current state of African and African Diaspora studies, while interrogating new theoretical approaches using a variety of disciplinary perspectives.
