Lei Jun, Founder, Chairman, and CEO of Xiaomi Group, marked this entry as a significant leap beyond the smartphone industry. The company’s commitment involves a tenfold investment, prioritizing foundational core technologies to construct an exceptional vehicle. Xiaomi aims to become one of the top five global automakers within 15 to 20 years.
The core technologies showcased by Xiaomi indicate a bottom-up approach, starting with independent research in key areas. Xiaomi EV invested over 10 billion CNY in the initial R&D phase, employing over 3,400 engineers globally. The focus areas encompass E-Motor, Battery, Xiaomi Die-Casting, Xiaomi Pilot Autonomous Driving, and Smart Cabin.
E-Motor: Pushing Performance Boundaries
Xiaomi exhibited its HyperEngine V6/V6s and HyperEngine V8s E-motors, challenging traditional powertrains from the internal combustion engine era. HyperEngine V8s, reaching a global record of 27,200 rpm, boasts innovative cooling designs with bidirectional full oil cooling technology and an S-shaped oil circuit. Set for mass production in 2025, it signifies a leap in industry performance.
HyperEngine V6/V6s motors, with an industry-leading rotational speed of 21,000 rpm, surpassed the most powerful mass-produced electric motor globally. These motors achieve remarkable power and torque outputs, setting a new standard.
Battery Technology
Xiaomi’s CTB Integrated Battery Technology showcases an efficiency of 77.8%, the highest of CTB batteries worldwide, with a 24.4% overall performance improvement. Safety measures include a 14-layer protection system, dual-side water cooling, and aerogel insulation for heat dissipation.
Xiaomi’s self-developed Battery Management System (BMS) with ASIL-D ensures industry-leading reliability and safety. Each Xiaomi battery undergoes rigorous safety testing, surpassing international standards.
Xiaomi Die-Casting
Xiaomi Die-Casting T9100 and Xiaomi Titans Metal mark the company’s innovation in large die-casting and materials. Xiaomi’s die-casting process achieves unparalleled efficiency, reducing welded joints, overall car weight, and production hours.
Xiaomi Titans Metal, a high-strength die-casting material, is a result of meticulous research. Xiaomi’s commitment to self-research is evident in its comprehensive control over the large die-casting industrial chain.
Xiaomi Pilot Autonomous Driving
Xiaomi demonstrated three key autonomous driving technologies: Adaptive BEV Technology, Road-Mapping Foundational Model, and Super-Res Occupancy Network Technology. These innovations ensure precise perception, dynamic trajectory adjustments, and accurate obstacle recognition, setting Xiaomi on a path to join the industry’s top echelon by 2024.
Smart Cabin
Xiaomi EV’s Smart Cabin focuses on human-centric design, featuring a 16.1-inch 3K central console, a 56-inch HUD head-up display, and a 7.1-inch rotating dashboard. Equipped with the Snapdragon 8295 in-car chip, the interactive experience mirrors tablets, ensuring ease of use.
Xiaomi SU7 stands out by integrating applications, hardware, and third-party CarIoT ecosystems, offering an unparalleled smart mobile space experience. The “Human x Car x Home” smart ecosystem is now officially complete with Xiaomi’s entry into the automotive industry.
