Jan 23, 2024: Xiaomi India, the global technology brand, has partnered with Stonesoup Trust to introduce an innovative waste management initiative in Kannamangala Gram Panchayat, Karnataka. The collaboration, named ‘Namma Swachha Kannamangala,’ aims to revolutionize waste management by effectively handling 100% of the wet waste and 80% of all waste at the panchayat level, setting an example for a circular economy.

The comprehensive project involves Stonesoup Trust working closely with Kannamangala Gram Panchayat, Citizen Group Force GW, and MLA’s Mahadevpura Task Force. The initiative will focus on efficient source segregation, sustainable waste processing practices, and community involvement to ensure the success and long-term sustainability of the project.

As part of the campaign, Stonesoup Trust will oversee waste segregation at the source, collection, and processing of both wet and dry waste. The project involves training a women’s Self-Help Group (SHG) called Bharathambe Sanjeevani Grama Panchayat Organization to raise awareness and manage operations for lasting impact.

Muralikrishnan B, President of Xiaomi India, expressed the company’s commitment to environmental sustainability and community welfare. He stated, “Through the implementation of a resilient waste management system, we intend to bring tangible benefits to the entire community. We aim to efficiently handle 100% of the wet waste at the panchayat level as we aspire to pave the way for a cleaner and more eco-friendly future in Kannamangala.”

Stonesoup Trust, in collaboration with local stakeholders, plans to compost wet waste at a local processing center, actively involving the gram panchayat in providing essential civil infrastructure for waste management. The SHG team equipped with information and vehicles will ensure effective waste collection, with wet waste undergoing composting and dry waste being sorted and sent for recycling.

Malini Parmar, Founder of Stonesoup.in, emphasized the power of collective efforts in bringing about positive change. She stated, “This initiative showcases the power of collective efforts in bringing about positive change and inspires us to continue our mission of building a greener future.”

Lingaraj Urs, Member Panchayat, expressed appreciation for the collaboration, stating, “We hope this model will become a template for other Gram Panchayats to manage their waste.”

Xiaomi India’s commitment to environmental sustainability is evident through its collaborations and initiatives, making a positive difference in waste management and community welfare.
