Skateboarding is a fun hobby that people from young to old like to take part in all over the world. For some it can even become their profession! But just because it’s common to see people skateboard by you on the street doesn’t mean it’s completely safe. There are lots of things you can do to make sure that skateboarding is a safe and enjoyable hobby. Here are 5 tips for skateboarders.
Don’t Buy Name Brand Decks
Name brand decks are just a way to make extra money for companies. You are only paying for the name brand. They are exactly the same thing as blank decks and are therefore a huge waste of money!
Save your money for other things, such as the personal injury lawyer you may need to hire if you get hit by a car while skating. Ask other people at the skate park what type of deck they use or where they got it and you will probably be able to find a sweet deal within your price range.
Know Your Limits
You know better than anyone what you are physically capable of and you know your skateboarding abilities. If you are a beginner for example, you shouldn’t be trying tricks and stunts meant for experts. Know your own limits and work within them to ensure your personal safety and that of those around you.
Find A Skatepark
Finding a skatepark in your area to practice is a good idea because you’ll be much safer skating there than you would in an unregulated area where cars travel. Your local skatepark is also a great place to meet new friends who can help you to become a better skateboarder, and if you were to get injured at a skatepark there will likely be other people around who can get you help quicker. Plus, you know you won’t be breaking any laws!
Don’t Be Afraid To Fall
Although you should of course be careful and take proper precautions so as not to get hurt, one thing that will help make you into a better skateboarder is to rid yourself of your fear of falling down. You will get some scraped knees and hands along the way – just prepare for them, wear padding and helmets, and try to catch yourself when you inevitably fall. Before you know it, you won’t be falling anymore and will be able to do lots of things on a skateboard you didn’t think you could previously do.
Skateboarding can be a blast for just about anyone! Don’t worry if you don’t know what you’re doing at first – you’ll learn fast and will be skating like a pro in no time. Just be cautious and patient and follow the above tips!
