PNR Status Buzz is an Innovation in PNR and Train Enquiry System

The details were revealed by top executives of the company in a press meeting organized in the city recently. PNR Status Buzz is scaling new heights of popularity in its PNR enquiry services and is now expanding to other services for Indian Railways.

PNR number is a number allotted to every ticket holder of Indian railways. It is a ten-digit number printed on the left-hand corner of the ticket. It is the number for ensuring the identification of a train passenger. Its relevance has increased now that the entire booking system of the Railway has been computerized.

“While travelling by railways, passengers can make a booking 120 days in advance of the travel date. They are provided the PNR number to function as a reference point for any queries in the future,” explained an executive.

PNR number indicates the following status of railways tickets: CNF (confirmed) – If a ticket is booked and seats allotted, it is termed as Confirmed booking. In this case, berth and coach number are indicated on the ticket.

The second type of status is RAC (Reservation against Cancellation): this refers to the status of a ticket when a reserved berth is not allotted, but the passenger can board the train. He has to share a berth with someone for a seat and will be allocated a sleeping berth when there is cancellation of a regular ticket.

The third status of PNR number is Wait Listed (WL): This means no berth has been allotted to passenger and ticket is on waiting list. WL status converts to Confirmed status when others have cancelled tickets and RAC seats have been filled up on a first priority basis.

CAN/MOD: It stands for a cancelled or modified PNR number. Cancellation may be done over the counter or by online means.

Tatkal: Tatkal service is a booking system intended for booking under the Tatkal (emergency) quota 24 hours before the train journey. This ticket may be confirmed or enter the Tatkal waiting list.
